Inserts and bits do the actual cutting on a brake rotor or drum, so a fresh edge is what separates a smooth finish from chatter. We stock negative- and positive-rake styles for Ammco lathes, John Bean, Accu-Turn, and other major brands.
Tool holders clamp the insert at the correct angle and hold it steady through the pass. We carry right-hand, left-hand, drum, and round bit holders, including sets for machines running the 6950 twin cutter.
Silencers dampen ring and chatter while you turn, and that shows up directly in your surface finish. Choose a solid or ventilated rotor silencer band, a drum silencer band, a universal clip-on model, or a spring silencer assembly to match the rotor mass you are cutting.
Spindle boots and feed screw boots keep chips and grit off moving hard parts, and a worn belt costs you spindle speed. We stock V-belts for Ammco 3000 and 4000 series machines plus the 20-inch belt for the two-step aluminum pulley set.
Ordering goes faster when you shop by part numbers instead of by memory. Every listing shows interchangeable part numbers, so a shop running an Ammco model 4000 can confirm fitment before checkout rather than hoping. A bit that almost fits will chatter its way through the cut, and cost you the rotor. Installation takes minutes. Inserts index into the holder and torque down, a belt slips over the pulley set once tension is released, and boots slide on after the cross feed is backed out. Keeping the machine in its original configuration protects the design Ammco engineered into the lathe, which is exactly what gives you repeatable results job after job. Service intervals follow your volume. Busy brake bays rotate inserts weekly, swap silencer bands once the rubber hardens, and check boots and belts each quarter. A larger rotor or a heavy-duty truck drum pulls harder on the cutting edge, so plan on shorter insert life and order accordingly. Replace parts before lathe performance slips. Scored finishes, chatter, and a spindle that sounds different under load all point to worn components. MT-RSR ships within one to three business days, so a shelf spare is never far away.
Consumables are the wear items you replace on a schedule: inserts, bits, silencer bands, boots, and belts. Every tool in this category has a service life tied to how much you cut.
Match the holder first. A round bit holder takes a round carbide insert, while negative rake holders on machines with a 6950 twin cutter take negative rake inserts. Check the listed part numbers to confirm.
Yes. Alongside Ammco lathes, we stock bits and inserts for John Bean, FMC Ranger, Accu-Turn, Kwikway, and Snap-on machines, so most major brands in your bay are covered.
Size it to the brake rotor you are turning. Small solid bands suit thin rotors, ventilated bands wrap any vented rotor, and a larger rotor or automotive drum takes the longer band.
It shields the spindle and feed screw from metal chips and shop grime. A torn boot lets debris reach the threads, which is where feed accuracy starts to go.
Check the belt whenever you service the machine. Glazing, cracking, or slipping under load means it is time, and belts are also sold as part of the aluminum pulley set.
Our repair parts are built to OE brake lathe specifications with USA-made manufacturing behind them, so you get the highest-quality fit without paying dealer pricing.
Most rotors mount through the center hole with cones and spacers. Rotors that need lug location use the hub holes and a matching adapter set from our brake clamping category.
Yes, and plenty of shops do. We supply wear parts for older-style machines as well as new lathe machines, so a well-maintained lathe keeps earning for years.
